Obituary of Doris Marie Karpuk
Doris Marie Karpuk, 95, of South Glastonbury passed away peacefully in her home on June 8 with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Andrew A Karpuk. Doris is survived by her daughter, Joan M Karpuk of Glastonbury, her daughter Catherine, and her husband Jeffrey Seward of Burlington, VT, and their sons Scott, Bryan and Trevor, her son Andrew A Karpuk and his wife Teresa of Katy TX and their daughters Brittany and Lexi, and her son Gregory C Karpuk of South Glastonbury, CT.
Doris was born on March 13, 1922 to Joseph and Elizabeth Coffey in Fall River MA. She grew up in Schenectady, NY and in 1944 she was a proud graduate of Cornell University. Following graduation she lived in Albany, NY where she was one of the first female customer service representatives for IBM.
In 1952 Doris and Andrew were married in St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. In 1958 they moved to their home in South Glastonbury where they raised four children who were the focus of their lives. Doris was the score keeper at Woodledge and GHS swim meets, treasurer of GHS booster club and never missed a swim meet, diving meet or baseball game in which her children were competing.
Doris was a long time member of St Augustine’s church where she was a member of the altar guild and she volunteered for the Second Chance thrift shop for 30 years. Doris loved to travel and was a devoted fan of UConn women’s basketball. She had the Irish gift of gab, a beautiful smile and a deep, contagious laugh. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Doris' family extends sincere thanks to her hospice nurse Eve Organik, and her aides Amanda Fee, Claudette and Sharon Campbell, Dawn McDonald, Maria Matos and everyone who provided compassionate care this past year.
