Andy, Joan, Cathy, Greg, and families,
I have many fond memories of your mom, from early childhood birthday parties and playing near Lakewood to all those years at Woodledge, where she spent so many of her summer days. During the week, she'd sit by the side of the pool with other "pool parents" while we kids practiced our swimming strokes or dives, followed by games of Shark or Marco Polo; come Saturday, she performed the vital role of scorekeeper for our swim meets. In so many ways, Doris epitomized the Spirit of Woodledge, and I can still hear her wonderful laughter rippling through the warm summer air, eliciting smiles from all within hearing range.
I'm thankful that I had the privilege of knowing Doris Karpuk.
My deepest condolences to you all for your loss. May you take comfort in the knowledge that she lived a full life and touched so many people.
Love,
Steve

Joan, Cathy, Andy and Greg, So sorry to hear about the death of your mother. I can still see her helping to run the Woodledge swim meets and hear her loud, contagious laughter. She seemed so energetic and good natured! I pray that good memories of her will comfort you in the days and months ahead. Love, Linda Calvin Kern

Dear Joan, Greg, Cathy and Andrew and grandchildren - Kelly and I send our deepest sympathies and prayers for everyone.
Hoping you can soon find Peace in your mom's/grandma's passing, from the Prince of Peace and His mother, Our Lady of Consolation.
At the end of a life well-lived, I'm always reminded of the words to the hymn, "The strife is o'oer, the battle done, The victory of life is won..." and which ends each verse with "Alleluia!" What great Hope this gives as we believe in Our Lord's promise of life everlasting, and the chance to be with our loved ones again forever some day!
Will be thinking of you all and saying prayers Friday during her Mass time.
Love to all,
Jean

To my family and extended family,
On the night of June 8th, I lost the only grandparent I ever truly knew. Someone who fearlessly lived for each moment and graced us with her infectious laughter and spirit. Someone who taught my father and his siblings the value of education and family, passing down the same sentiments to each of her grandkids. Someone who, to the end, would tell me to "call her when I got home safe." Someone who would call me each birthday to sing Happy Birthday, followed by a much needed catch-up. Finally, someone who would never leave dessert untouched or a shot of Bailey's unfinished.
Throughout my life, I have professed and discussed with my friends that my middle name, Marie, stems from my grandma and my aunt. To this day, I cannot think of two stronger or more loving individuals to be named after. I am so blessed to be guided in life by these women, and I will carry my middle name with honor, knowing that you, Grandma, will be with me always.
To Uncle Greg, Aunt Joan, and Aunt Cathy, I thank you all immensely for taking care of Grandma when my dad could not physically be in Connecticut. My entire family is eternally grateful for all you have done, and I know my dad would rest easy each night knowing she was in good hands. Thank you all for your constant updates and steady communication to the Houston Karpuk's during this time.
Lastly, Grandma, the words "I love you" are not adequate enough to express how grateful I am to be your granddaughter, how much you are appreciated, or how much you will always mean to me. Therefore I will simply say: Thank you for being my role model, my expert-in-life, and the most amazing grandma I could've ever asked for.
With Love,
Lexi Karpuk

Mom - I want to thank you for being my mother-in-law and for being there while your daughter Cathy's and my family has grown. Our sons always very much enjoyed visiting you in South Glastonbury, CT - in the house their mother had grown up in. You were quite a lady. I have said this multiple times (to your children in particular) but I believe it is worth mentioning again. You had a tremendous gift. That gift (among other things) was that you could talk with and relate to almost anyone; conversing in great detail with them and making them feel special. That is truly a gift. I will always remember you talking about sports (and UCONN basketball in particular) with our sons when they were younger - and them being so surprised about not only your knowledge in sports that they enjoy, but also your interest. You were able to connect with them in many ways - this being one of them. You are also responsible for creating the greatest gift I have ever received or ever will receive - that being my wife (your daughter) Cathy. She and her siblings loved you so much - but I am sure you were very much aware of that. I know we will meet again someday; you'll be there with your husband Andy (who I thought the world of) and you'll probably be talking to my parents and telling them about their grandsons and how great their futures look. Thank you for being a part of my life and for being a wonderful grandmother for our children.
Your son-in-law, Jeff

To all the family, you have my sincere condolences upon the death of this fine lady. It's hard to believe that just a few weeks ago we were on Campus celebrating a graduation...well, think of this as her graduation, one that brings your Mom and Dad together once again.
It's hard letting our loved ones go, but harder to see them in a condition that we are helpless to deal with. God bless you Cathy for being a staunch caregiver, it was more important for you to be with Mom than at BU that weekend.
The reason it's so difficult for us to deal with loss is that all of our lives we are taught how to acquire things, never how to lose them...we just don't have the proper tools to deal with loss. Relationships never end they just change. Death separates us from the physical part, but not the spiritual or emotional part of the relationship. What we as grievers need to do is complete and heal the emotional part first, then it's much easier to let go of the physical part you knew as Mom. Only each one of you know what that grief work is.
The best advice I give families is, "Cry when you have to, laugh when you can."
If I can be of any assistance, don't be afraid to contact me I will help in any way I am able.
God Bless you all..
