Obituary of William E. Callahan
William Eugene Callahan “Billy” beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend died suddenly at home August 14, 2015.
Billy was born April 9, 1948 to the late William F. Callahan and Mary Ward Callahan. He was a graduate of East Catholic High School and Central Connecticut State University. He was a member of the Army Reserves. Billy had a very successful career as an executive in the paper industry at Rourke Eno, Xpedx and Unisource. He last worked for the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles as a Division Chief. Billy was the patriarch of his family of nine siblings. He loved golfing with his children, brothers and many friends, going to Yankee Stadium with his family, taking Gracie for ice cream and going on family vacations. Billy’s greatest joy and happiness was always spending time with his family. He cherished his wife Linda, his two sons Eric and Christopher and his daughter Alyssa. As his family expanded, he loved his daughter-in-law Brooke and Christopher’s fiancé Letty. However, the greatest love of his life will forever be his granddaughter Gracie, whom he absolutely adored. He will always be remembered as her Popo. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Linda Calitri Callahan, Eric and Brooke Callahan, Christopher and his fiancé Letty Aguilar, his daughter Alyssa and granddaughter Grace Elizabeth. He leaves his eight siblings Kathleen Lauria, Kevin (and Cheryl) Callahan, Barry Callahan, Shaun Callahan, Rosemary (and David) Scotto, Patricia (and Carlow) Scalf, Michael (and Nancy) Callahan and Mark (and Katie) Callahan. He also leaves his Calitri family, Frank and Jennie Calitri, Ed and Cindy Calitri, Diane Calitri, Nancy Moon and Marsha and Gary Nedorostek. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, great nephews and nieces, many cousins and his aunt Margaret Ward. Billy leaves many lifelong friends too numerous to name, but you all know who you are. Billy was predeceased by his parents, grandparents and his brother Brian Callahan.
The family expresses its deepest appreciation to Jim Hankard. Family and friends may visit Billy’s family at Mulrayn Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury, CT from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday August 19. A mass of Christian burial to celebrate Billy’s life will be held at 10am on August 20 at the Church of St. Patrick-St. Anthony, 285 Church Street, Hartford, CT. Friends are respectfully requested to go directly to the Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1318 Hebron Ave, Glastonbury.
