She is predeceased by parents Ruth and Jerome Martin as well as sibling Jerome Williams. She attended the Hartford School System and Greater Hartford Community College. Laurie’s employment included assistance in real estate, followed by many years in the insurance field. One of the most remarkable aspects of her life was the way she extended her love beyond her family. Laurie became a foster parent with the Department of Children and Families where she welcomed children into her home with open arms and an open heart. One foster child, Miss Matos remained in her care until she reached adulthood. She continued to hold a special relationship with Miss Matos who now has two children.  Laurie also shared many years of friendship with a special young man, Josh Reyes who regarded her as a second mother.

One of the most important aspects of her life was her devotion to the Bahai faith. Laurie became a member of the Bahai faith at the age of 15. She was a very active member of the Faith which focuses on the Unity of Humanity. Laurie’s purpose and passion was focused on spreading the teachings of her religion. She enjoyed reading books and writings on the Faith, and frequently would share her enthusiasm and scriptures with family and friends.

Laurie was a member of the Glastonbury Interfaith group and on many Thanksgiving service agenda as being a speaker.

Laurie loved her home here she resided for 30 years. She became President of the Coop, a position she held until she became ill.

Laurie surrounded herself with beauty, which was apparent within the flowers she planted, décor, furnishings and taste in clothing. She loved watching old movies and documentaries, going to the beach, and a good seafood restaurant.
