Bert moved to Connecticut in 1976 and started working in West Hartford as a hair stylist and then opened his own salon, Bert & Co, in 1991. He moved the salon to South Windsor in 2014. In addition to working as a hairstylist, Bert worked alongside Gary on the farm.
Bert was an avid bowler; he bowled many years at Silver Lane Bowling Alley and when he retired his bowling ball, he took up bingo with his mother-in-law Diane a few nights a week. He made many friends along the way. Bert always loved a good card game with the family; often the games got exciting, especially when his nieces got the best of him!
Bert made many friends through his clients at the salon, as well as working at the farm stand and at the local farmers markets. Most of his clients of over forty years have not been just clients–they were friends as well.
Bert and Gary loved to travel, and they enjoyed trips to Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, Kennebunkport, Maine, and most recently, a European Cruise to Hungary, Austria, and Germany. They went to the Christmas Markets throughout Europe on their journey.
