Obituary of Lawrence Monti Casellini
Lawrence Monti “Larry” Casellini, died peacefully in his sleep at the Marlborough, Connecticut Health Care Center on January 29, 2018, less than a month shy of his 83rd birthday. Larry is survived by his wife, Edith (Lawson) of Manchester, CT; his sons, John of Albany, NY; Mark of Clifton Park, NY; and David of Tolland, CT. He was the grandfather to seven Casellini grandchildren: Peter of San Diego, CA; Laura of East Greenbush, NY; Ryan and Edith of Tolland, CT; Joseph and Andrew of Albany, NY; and Jennifer of Clifton Park, NY and father-in-law to Christine Rutigliano (John); Nancy Casellini (Mark); and Amy Casellini (David).Larry was born on February 25, 1935 in Barre, VT to Salvatore and Elva (Monti) Casellini. He graduated from Spaulding High School, Middlebury College (B.S. Physics), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (B.S. Mechanical Engineering) and Penn State University (M.S. Aerospace Engineering). He married his childhood sweetheart Edith Lawson on June 21st, 1958 and they were preparing to celebrate their 60th anniversary this year. Larry worked at Electric Boat in Groton, CT after graduation from MIT before returning to school for his graduate degree. Upon completion he worked at the United Aircraft Research Labs in East Hartford, CT for a dozen years. He then joined the Travelers Insurance Company as a Senior Vice President for Safety. Later in his career he undertook a capstone project, returned to aerospace engineering to design a washer and dryer for the Space Lab, and completed his employment with Johnson and Higgins. Larry played baseball and skied competitively through his high school days, and continued both pursuits into adulthood, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, watching every game he could. He was a devoted husband and father, and was active with Little League, Indian Guides, Boy Scouts and other activities with his boys. He was a communicant at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in South Glastonbury, CT, where he was an active volunteer. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7pm on Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Mulryan Funeral Home at 725 Hebron Avenue in Glastonbury. Those wishing to attend a memorial service, which is scheduled for Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 10:00 AM in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 915 Main Street in South Glastonbury, should meet at the church. All are welcome to attend to celebrate Larry’s life.
