Obituary of William Constantine
William (Bill) Constantine, best friend and husband of Doris (Daglio) Constantine, passed away on January 4th 2018. Born on October 2nd, 1941 in New York City, he was the son of the late Steve and Angela (Lamberis) Constantine. He moved to Connecticut at twelve years of age and has been a Glastonbury resident ever since. Bill was employed by Pratt and Whitney for two years, then for five years he worked for Doris’ dad in the plumbing field. An opportunity knocked that was too good to pass up and he purchased the Western Auto Constantine Hardware store where he enjoyed working in the business for 50 years, now belonging to his son, Gary. Whether it was helping a customer at his store, delivering a lawn mower, or fixing a snow blower, Bill was always happy to be at work and was always ready to help anyone in any way he could. He also helped his son Bill Jr. start his business, Constantine Sealing Service. Bill was proud of his service to the community. He volunteered both as a driver for the Glastonbury Volunteer Ambulance and was a member of the Glastonbury Volunteer Fire Department Company 1 for over ten years. He became a Fire Commissioner including Chairman from 1978-1981. He was a member of the Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce for over 50 years and served the Chamber as its president. He was also on the advisory board of First Federal Savings and Loan Association currently known as Key Bank. Bill was on the Glastonbury Town Council for eight years, first as a minority leader and then for two years as Chairman. He coached both little league and basketball teams when his children were growing up. He also was a lifelong member of the Matson Hill Community Club and POC. Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving children: Bill Jr. and his wife Donna, Karen Krotzer and her husband Sam, and Gary and his wife Anne. Also he is leaving behind his nine grandchildren all of which he was so proud of: Katie, Amy, Billy III, Kyle, Kevin, Bryan, Trevor, Jillian, and Brendan. He was a very loving, kind, and generous man to his family. Other survivors are his four brothers: Gus (Barbara), Nick, Chris (Pauline), and Michael. He loved spending time at his Rhode Island beach house especially when the whole family would be there. Bill also enjoyed his many travels with Doris and spending the winters in Florida. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 10am in St Paul Church, 2577 Main St. Glastonbury. Everyone is asked to meet at church. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, January 9th from 4-7 at Mulryan Funeral Home 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.
