Obituary of Matthew Donald Mulcahy
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart we announce the passing of Matthew Donald Mulcahy, 86, the beloved husband of Jeanette (Tedford) Mulcahy. Matthew passed away at his home of 60 years in East Hartford this past Friday (Dec. 8, 2017). He was born on April 7, 1931 in Hartford the son of the late Matthew R. and Maria (Gedra) Mulcahy and was a lifelong resident of East Hartford. Matthew was a third-generation Tobacco Farmer and a Police Officer with the East Hartford Police Department where he retired as a Lieutenant in 1990. He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. He was a talented hunter and a storyteller. Matthew was a lover of dogs and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great grandchild. He instilled in all his children and grandchildren a love for their Irish culture and heritage. Matthew was a strong and kind man, who will be missed by all. Beside, his wife of 62 years he is survived by his four children and their spouses; Kathleen and Thomas Jacobs of Sandisfield, MA, Maureen and Albert Maturo of East Hampton, Mary Jane and Charles House of South Glastonbury and Matthew James Mulcahy of East Hartford, four grandchildren Katie Lynn Darna and her husband Michael, Maranda Elizabeth House, Molly Jean Maturo, Emily Elizabeth Mulcahy, a great granddaughter Emma Grace Darna and several nieces and a nephew. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017at 10:00 am in St. Christopher Church Campus of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 538 Brewer St. East Harford. Everyone is asked to meet right at church. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Hartford. Family and friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Tuesday, Dec 12, 2017 from 4-7pm. The family would like to sincerely thank all the Health Care Professionals that helped with Matthew’s care, especially to Hartford Health Care at Home.
