We send our prayers and will have a Mass said for David. The last time we were together at a family gathering David talked about his work with marginal kids. He spoke with great enthusiasm and confidence about how a public school could tough their lives. As he spoke it was evident his joy and commitment to children who often find failure in school. His life made a difference, not just in the kids who were directly touched, but the staff who worked with those children had a model in David that would continue his influence in the years to come.

I was deeply saddened to learn that David Yellen had passed away. He was a ray of hope to our family, especially our daughter Kaelen, when he arrived at Lisbon Central School. At the time Kaelen was battling anxiety and was struggling to attend school. David made us feel like things were going to be ok. He established a very special rapport and bond with our daughter and in doing so helped her to return to school full time. She is extremely saddened by this loss and is coping with the fact that she will not be able to share their special hallway greeting anymore or pop into to his office just to say hi but is so thankful he came into her life. I want you to know that he will remain in our hearts as a very special person. I hope your family can find peace at this time of sadness by knowing he made an impact in the life of my child and many others.

Dave was one of the first special education directors I worked with. He had a way of making everyone feel at ease. He worked hard to ensure all the kids in Lisbon knew they were important. He was a good man and I was honored to know him. It is a great loss for Lisbon and the children.

Diana and Andrew,
My heart goes out to you for this profound loss. Dave was taken from the world way too soon, and I am so very sorry.
During his time as a Principal at Natchaug, watching Dave interact with students was always a treat. He had an amazing way to put smiles on the faces of even those kids who others could not reach. His work ethic was unparalleled, and he would come in to work with a positive attitude, even when dealing with serious health issues. Nothing made him more proud than to speak of Andrew, but he had many things of which to be proud.
Please accept my sincere sympathy.

My special needs son Stephen attended Lisbon Central School. Dave always made Stephen feel so important and special. He always greeted him with such warmth and a smile. Mrs G Stephen's para gave him the nickname Big Y. Although Stephen is nonverbal his face lit up with such delight when you would mention Big Y.
Dave was such a warm caring man taken away way too soon. He surly will be missed by many. Our sincere condolences to you and his family. It was a honor to have him working our son. He always called Stephen the myth and legend. He always joked with him and Stephen would giggle. We have fond memories to cherish.

"Spud" touched the lives of many and will be remembered for his kind and gentle demeanor. I will always cherish the golf memories and the numerous acapella harmonies we shared. My condolences to all who were part of his life, and keep in mind, "It may be raining, but there's a rainbow above you."

Words cannot convey how we feel. Being his father's cousin I knew David all his life. He will always be remembered for his humor and how he brought happiness into every person he touched. We will miss you David. When you reach the pearly gates, please say hello to Jesus and your mom and brother for us.

God Bless You, David. I was one of David's college friends since 1976 & fortunate to experience his goodness, joy for life, his humor, his great energy & his boundless vision for service. We cheered for the UConn Huskies enthusiastically throughout the decades, returning to UConn homecoming many times.
May we all be comforted by David's remarkable life and honor his memory. My deepest sympathy to family & friends.

Upon David's appointment at Lisbon Central School as Special Education Director, he made an immediate impact in the helping of our daughter overcome her anxiety issues. He maintained a positive connection with her and we will always appreciate his dedication to not only our daughter, but all the children of Lisbon. Our prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.
