Obituary of Joseph J. Galka
Joseph J. Galka, 89, of Glastonbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 22, 2016. He was the devoted husband of the late Jane (Lattanzio) Galka. Born on October 12, 1927 in Scranton, PA, he was the loving son of the late John and Clara (Filkowski) Galka. He had lived in Glastonbury for the past 65 years and served our country in the US Navy during World War II, and prior to his retirement he was a member of the Heat & Frost Insulators Union, Local #33. Joe was a self taught, master tradesman with acquired advanced skills in carpentry, plumbing, hvac, electrical, automotive repair and home restoration. Joe was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, archery and bird watching. In 1967 Joe designed and built the Trapshooting facility at the Glastonbury Elks club where he was an active member for much of his life. He is survived by his sister, Teresa LaQuerre of Nashua, NH; 3 children, Linda Crabtree and her husband Ernest of Harwich MA, Gary Galka and his wife Cynthia of North Granby CT, and Debra Galka of Glastonbury CT; 4 grandchildren, Katherine Skelly of Hopkinton MA, Elizabeth Crabtree of New York City, Jennifer Kowalik of Portland CT, and Heather Galka of Londonderry NH; 2 great grandchildren, Julia and Vivienne Skelly. He was predeceased by his brother Paul (Hank) Galka and granddaughter Melissa Galka. Services were private.
