Obituary of Ruth Ruff Griswold

Ruth A. (Ruff) Griswold, 95, of Bolton, wife of the late Dr. Edwin Griswold, died Saturday November 12, 2016 at Salmon Brook Nursing Home. She was born November 1, 1921 in Glastonbury, daughter of the late Ignatz and Ann Ruff. Ruth was raised in Glastonbury and graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1939. A 1946 graduate of the Hartford Hospital’s School of Nursing, she spent the next 64 years at Hartford Hospital, the last 14 of them as a volunteer. Ruth was hired as an assistant head nurse in obstetrics and gynecology and was later named supervisor. Later, Ruth served in the acute surgical areas. Ruth retired in 1995 and started volunteering, as of 2010 she had accrued 14,000 hours. Ruth was an active and longtime member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational. Ruth enjoyed reading, collecting art and attending antique shows. Ruth is survived by many dear friends and her church family. A memorial service celebrating Ruth’s life will be Saturday January 7 at 10:00am in the First Church of Christ, Congregational, 2183 Main St., Glastonbury.
