I was very shocked and saddened to hear of Katherine's passing. She was a dear friend and co-volunteer with me at East Glastonbury Public Library since the Summer of 2013. Alongside her, i was a member of the Wednesday afternoon book group at "Little Red" until family and other obligations drew me away. Even then, Katherine still invited me to stay for meetings because she "appreciated my insights". this really touched me.
Last April, Katherine threw me a special vegan-food-theme Birthday Party at Little Red's April Friends' Meeting (I'm vegan.) There was even a vegan chocolate cake with enough for leftovers! Katherine invited my parents to this meeting and truly made them -- and of course me!! feel welcome and special on my special day. but as you know, Katherine was like that. :)
Many times Katherine would buy me vegan cookies or cakes, even if it was someone ELSE'S birthday--and sometimes multiple VARIETIES! Always going above and beyond with her love and kindness--but of course, I don't have to tell you. :)
I just ran across two pieces of paper that brought tears to my eyes: a hand written invite from Katherine to a prior Friends' Meeting and a printed email from her with info about a trip to Amish country that Katherine, ever thoughtful, thought my family might be interested in taking. :'()
Well, I'll leave you with those meditative thoughts for now... all my heartfelt prayers and love to you and your family during this difficult time... Love, Sara S. xoxo

Dear loved ones of Katherine. How she welcomed us into her family as the parents of Stephen's wife Leslie. We were included in family gatherings from the beginning and we became co-grandparents for Matthew and Marin. Yes, she was warm and inclusive. We will all miss her deeply.
Sincerely,
Dean and Nancy Smith

Steven, Richard and families--I'm very sad to learn of the loss of your mom. Katherine was a valued friend for many years, starting at St. James in Glastonbury, and continuing through Book Group meetings this year. I've looked forward to seeing her there, and hearing about her family and travels. She was so curious and enthusiastic about everything. I will miss her company and kindness very much.
