Obituary of Ingeborg Monty

Ingeborg (Pernat) Monty, 86, of Glastonbury, wife of the late John W. Monty, died Tuesday May 29, 2012 at the Glastonbury Health Care Center. Born July 9, 1925 in Schwelm, Germany, daughter of the late Karl and Margareta (Grimme) Pernat, she had lived in Colchester and Old Lyme moving to Glastonbury in 1985. She is survived by 2 sons; Douglas W. Monty and his wife Claudia Carbonari of Glastonbury and Wayne S. Monty, 2 grandsons; James Monty-Carbonari of Hartford and Jonathan Monty-Carbonari of Glastonbury. Private graveside services were held in Neipsic Cemetery, Glastonbury. Ingeborg met her future husband John in Frankfurt, West Germany while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force as a radio operator aboard one of the many cargo aircraft flying supplies into Berlin during the Berlin Airlift. Following their marriage and the birth of their first son, Douglas, John was reassigned to Fort Campbell, KY, where they remained for five years. During that period, she became a U.S. citizen and gave birth to her second son, Wayne, in 1954. Before John's retirement from the Air Force in 1965, her family saw several more moves to bases both in the U.S. and Europe. They settled in John's home state of Connecticut after his departure from the military and while he pursued a second career at Electric Boat in Groton, she entered a business college in New London, eventually graduating with a degree in bookkeeping. She was the bookkeeper at a number of businesses in the New London area until her retirement in 1985. Her interests included traveling, cooking and reading and two of the greatest joys in her life were her grandsons.
