Obituary of Christopher J. Wolf

Christopher (Chris) James Wolf died on April 26, 2016 at his home, with family by his side. A man of great character and integrity, he made a lasting impression on all those who knew him and always put others before himself. He was kind, generous, hardworking, loyal and always punctual. No matter what came his way, he approached life with a smile. 47 years ago he married his high school sweetheart Elaine. They complemented each other well and enjoyed boating, traveling and listening to music. Chris was also known to cut up the dance floor (much to Elaine's chagrin) at weddings and other celebrations. Being near water gave him peace and happiness. He cherished summers at Lake Winnipesaukee and on Long Island Sound where he and Elaine charted many miles on El Pescador, exploring Block Island and Montauk (though remaining at the dock suited him just fine). Chris found great pleasure in his friendships and his sense of humor and cheerful nature made him a friend to many. He looked forward to regular lunches and fishing trips with "The Board." While his culinary tastes were not entirely diverse or colorful (he generally preferred a box of macaroni and cheese and disliked all green vegetables), he was quite the cook. Family awaited his clam chowder on Easter and brunch on Christmas. Chris found fulfillment in his work and began his career at the accounting firm of Haskins & Sells. At the age of 27, along with his friend, Kent, they founded Scully & Wolf. Despite long hours at the office, he was always present with his family. He was heavily involved in his children's school activities and no matter the time or location could always be found on the sidelines of their basketball, baseball and softball games and in the audience at violin concerts. Never wishing to fully retire, Chris served as the finance director of Hartford and the interim director of finances for the town of New Britain. While his career in accounting was long and successful, his proudest achievement was the establishment of the POTE (Providing Opportunity Through Education) Foundation which was dedicated to providing educational support and resources to youth. One of the organization's most successful activities was a free violin program for pre-K and Kindergarten students. He will be dearly missed by his wife Elaine, son Gregory and wife Carrie, daughter Jennifer and husband John, brother Brad and wife Mary Jane, brother in law Bob and wife Patti, brother in law Joe and wife Rosanne, sister in law Anita and husband Ed and his adoring grandchildren: Taylor, Christopher, Austin and Kate who all called him "Papa." He is predeceased by his brothers Peter and George. A mass in honor of Chris will be held at St. Patrick-St.Anthony Church, 285 Church St., Hartford at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29.
