Michael's sudden passing is such a shock. We sat next to each other in home room in high school every day and I always enjoyed his sense of humor, his view of life and his passion for causes. I was the person who pierced his ear! Just an ice cube and a pin did the job but a rebellious act in those days and one he wore well. He will be remembered fondly as a truly unique individual and the world is a less interesting place without him. Thoughts and prayers to all his family on their great loss.

I knew Mike at UConn. I affectionately use to call him Sid because he had a punk rock appearance. He was one of the nicest guys I met, although our time together was short, it was very memorable. I'm glad we reconnected later in life through Facebook. My condolences to his family and friends. Mike will be missed. May the four winds blow you safely home.

My sincere condolences to Ffiona and the entire McDonough Family. I work at Murtha Cullina in Boston. Every time Mike came to visit us, he would stop by my desk to tell me funny stories to make me laugh. He would share pics of his pride and joy...his kids...and his wife. I still am in shock and saddened by his loss. I (along with us folks here in the Boston office) will miss him dearly!!! I hope you are strumming your guitar up in Heaven Michael!!!! RIP my friend........... (Oh, and as I am writing this, it is Wednesday Michael!!! - that is our private joke he and I shared).

Like everyone who was part of Mike McDonough's life, I'm in shock. I've been sad and crying all week. Mike and I were pretty close. But that's what was so great about him. He was open, honest and fearless with EVERYONE. That's the stuff that real friendship and human relationships are made of. If you were in Mike's life, you were truly in it (no matter how often you actually "saw" each other).
Right now, I'm angry at The Universe for taking someone I loved dearly away from me. ...and what sucks the most, is he was such an amazing human being !!! It just seems so unfair...
We were a lot alike, Mike and I (except he was nowhere near the drama queen I can be. LOL !!!). In fact, he was the exact opposite; always cool, calm and collected. He made confidence look easy. He got along with all kinds of people, no matter where they came from, or who they hung out with... the preppies, the partiers, the band geeks, the brainiacs, the outcasts, and the nerds. Just like his taste in people, he also had a crazy and eclectic taste in music. ...and Mike was a virtual encyclopedia of musical knowledge. That's one of the reasons we respected and liked each other so much. Everybody liked Mike. He was the big brother I always wanted, but never had.
Michael also had a very playful spirit. He was always clowning around, joking with his friends, and basically in a good mood every time you saw him. In fact, he put you in a good mood just by being in his presence. But he could also be very serious. And by serious, I mean caring, empathetic, and compassionate. And he was SUPER intelligent (a trait that was my personal favorite). It's like he knew a lot more about the world and the people in it than you did; like there was some secret that he knew, but he wasn't going to let go of too easily. Most importantly, he was ALWAYS his own person. Mike NEVER compromised his beliefs or his integrity for ANYBODY.
These words are for you, Michael McDonough... one of my best friends, and one of the best human beings I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.

To Mike's family,
I know that no words, either spoken or written, can fill the void left by the loss of a loved one. I hope you find some measure of comfort in knowing that so many friends of Mike are holding you in their thoughts and prayers during the difficult days ahead.
I knew Mike from his earliest days at Murtha and we professionally "grew up" together. Mike was a skilled and able lawyer, but more importantly he was a long time friend. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to work with him and to know him. My heart is so heavy.
With sympathy,
David

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Michael was very important to his class mates back in Old Saybrook. He made us laugh and kept us from taking ourselves to serious. He walked a path that everyone wanted to follow. God bless him and his family and close friends.
