Obituary of Carolyn Foohey MacDonald

Carolyn Foohey MacDonald, 75, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away on December 23, at her daughter’s house in Franklin, Massachusetts. She was born on June 17, 1940 in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada to John and Isabelle (Smith) Foohey. At the age of eight, Carolyn's family moved from Canada to Hartford, Connecticut. She graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1958. After high school she attended St. Francis Nursing School in Hartford where she received a degree in Nursing. In 1981, she returned to school where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Long Term Care Administration from Quinnipiac College. She spent her career working as a registered nurse in several hospitals and long term care facilities in Connecticut and as a nursing home administrator in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. Carolyn, the eldest of eleven children, was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Lucas, sister Joanne and brother Lorne. Carolyn is survived by her son Robert MacDonald and his companion Betty Naylor of Prospect, CT, daughter Mary Brausch and her husband Dan of Franklin, MA., daughter Patricia Mascoli and her husband Chris of Burlington, CT, grandchildren Corey, Ryan, Nicholas, Mary Grace, Pierce, Isabel along with five sisters, three brothers and many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and a caring nurse. She enjoyed flower arranging, traveling with family and friends, gift giving, good food, and most of all, a good laugh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday Dec. 29 at 10am in St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Rd., South Glastonbury. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury, on Monday Dec. 28 from 4-7pm.
