Obituary of Edward F. Ruff
Edward F. Ruff, 85, of Glastonbury, beloved husband of Carol (Morrison) Ruff for 66 years, died, Friday, December 4, 2015 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Glastonbury on February 25, 1930 to Stephen and Anna (Frye) Ruff, he was a lifelong resident of the town. Prior to his retirement, Ed owned and operated Ruff Brothers Gas Station along with his brother, Steve, for 23 years, and was a Pratt and Whitney assemblies assembler for 15 years. Ed graduated from Glastonbury High School and played three different sports during his four years there. After graduation, he received a contract to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers for $28.00 per day, but never pursued it. For over 50 years, Ed was a member of the Daskam-Columbia Lodge #25; Good Intent Chapter #17, and First Church of Christ Congregational, Glastonbury. He was also a member of the Glastonbury AARP Chapter #2010, where he enjoyed arranging bus trips and co-chairing various fundraisers with his wife Carol. Ed loved playing golf with his friends, vacationing with his family in York Beach, ME, and delivering Meals-on-Wheels. He was a big fan of UCONN men’s and women’s basketball and the Boston Red Sox, enjoying spring training with Carol. Besides his wife Ed is survived by his children, Elaine and her husband Raymond Gembala of Bristol, De Ellison of Andover, Edward and his wife Angela Ruff, of Hebron, his grandchildren, Jennifer, Kristina and her husband Kevin, Barry and his wife Lynora, and Eddie, Jr. and his wife Jen. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Rileigh, Holly, Ryan, his sister-in-law, Marion Ruff, many beloved nieces and nephews, and many friends. Ed was predeceased by his brother, Steve. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 8 at 10a.m. in First Church of Christ Congregational, 2183 Main St., Glastonbury. Burial will follow in Green Cemetery. Friends and family may call Monday, December 7 from 4pm to 7pm, at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.
