Obituary of George A. Jerto

George A. Jerto, age 85, of McIntyre, PA, formerly of South Glastonbury, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015 at Beacon Ridge Nursing Home. He was born 1930 in Sagamore, to Steve and Dorothy Goney Jerto. He attended the Church of the Good Shepherd, Kent, and was formerly a member of St Augustine R.C. Church, South Glastonbury. George was raised in Aultman and was a graduate of Homer City High School. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Air Force where he served as a pilot during the Korean War. Following his service in the Air Force he attended and graduated from Penn State University as an Industrial Engineer. He spent most of his career with Stanley Hardware in New Britain. Following retirement he was tutor of higher math at Capital Community College in Hartford. George is survived by his sister-in-law, Sr. Eric Marie (Marcella) Setlock, McIntyre; two nieces, Colleen Jerto, New Kensington; Barbara Stumpf, Belle Vernon, and their families; cousin Paula Jerto McGuire, Indiana. George also leaves two families to whom he was very close to during his years in Connecticut, the John Heffernon and Wilfred Talbot families. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Catherine “Cassie” Setlock Jerto in 2011, and his brothers Joe and wife Agnes, an infant brother, brother-in-law Edward Setlock. A funeral mass was celebrated on Tuesday in Pennsylvania. Burial with Military Honors will be held TODAY, Saturday, October 31, at 11:00a.m., in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury.
