Reading over the tributes and condolences, I realize that I did not know very much about this fine man. I only met him on a few social occasions with his beloved Nina and her family. Still, what I did get a glimpse of was a charismatic, smart, happy and witty man who was worth listening to.Time spent with Hal and Nina was always enjoyable. The respect and affection they had for each other was almost palpable. To read of all his earthly accomplishments was further illuminating as it gave substance and depth to his charisma; to learn that he was an spiritual man added a steadfast humility and the example of a life in balance and well lived. "Well done," Hal,"thou good and faithful servant!" Your legacy is one of light, and love, and selfless service to all!

“Lindert” (as his players affectionately called him) was kind and generous. He was wacky and fun (that was my braided hair he hung in his classroom). He was one-of-a-kind (and easily recognized in his white shorts and windbreaker). Congratulations on a life well-lived, Coach, though it was not long enough for our liking.
My deepest sympathy to Miss Fournier and the rest of Lindert’s family. I hope hearing about the joy he brought to thousands of people across the years will bring you some comfort. He will be missed.

Renbrook Summer Adventure posted a condolence

If Renbrook Summer Adventure had a Hall Of Fame, Henry “Hal” Lindert would be one of the first to enter that hall. We are saddened to announce that Hal, known to all as Father Nature, passed away last week.
Hal began working at RSA just as the camp was beginning in the mid seventies, and continued to spend the next 25 summers here. Hal’s life included many years as a teacher and coach at Lewis Mills High School in Burlington. His accomplishments there could fill pages of text. But he was also an All-Star at camp.
Hal influenced many staff members through his leadership, teaching young counselors outstanding methods of effectively working with children. He helped organize the first 6th grade overnight, believing campers would learn more about themselves if they were out of their comfort zone. He was proud of the mini terrariums he sent home with each camper. One of his most popular activities was to set up the “Un-natural” Nature Hunt, where campers had to find one element of the natural world out of place, such as a conch shell in a pine tree.
He relished his role here as Chief Strongbow during the Camp Carnival. Hal started the tradition of the Gold Rush and as chief, he would take one of your gold nuggets if he caught you. (He never caught anyone!) He delighted in telling his camp ghost story of the Cropsie Maniac, (somewhat based on actual events at Renbrook,) at the first 6th grade overnights, until too many kids were too scared to fall asleep.
To those who saw it, we’ll never forget the day he dressed as a rich old woman, getting a tour of the campus with the intention of buying the grounds and buildings and closing down the camp. The Nature room was the popular place to go on the first day of orientation to catch up with Hal and be entertained by his stories from the past year. One thing Hal did each year was present a pie to the counselor he believed was the “Counselor of the Year”. However, he swore that counselor to secrecy so no one would feel badly that they did not receive it. Very few people even knew he gave out this award.
Hal will always live on in our hearts and memories as a legend of Renbrook Summer Adventure.

You were one of my very favorite biology teachers in LSM in the 70's. I will miss your smile, laughter and the way you made biology fun. Who could forget disecting my first frog. You made it not so terrifying. My deepest sympathy to you and your beloved family. You will be dearly missed by so many.

It is with great sadness that I learned of one of my dearest mentors passing. Father Nature will forever live in my heart. He was more than a mentor, brother, father to me, He was a great friend. The words from an old hymn remind me of this wonderful friend.
Love to all his family, Silly Billy
Song Of Ruth
Wherever you go, I shall go
Wherever you live, so shall I live
Your people will be my people,
And your god will be my god, too.
Wherever you die, I shall die;
And there shall I be buried beside you
We will be together forever,
And our love will be the gift of our life

I was so sad to read about Hal's passing. He was an awesome teacher and actually made Biology so much more interesting than I ever thought it would be - lol I always remember getting my frog to disect and totally ruining the brain and Hal just laughed and said that would be what "not" to do..........I also worked with him at the high school as a secretary for quite a few years and he was always upbeat, great with the students and of course so much fun with all the staff too!! My heart goes out to the family and to Nina - prayers out to all of you........
