Obituary of Mary Louise Feeney

Mary Louise (Kirkendall) Feeney, 81, a long-time resident of Glastonbury, CT and Vero Beach, FL, passed into eternal life on August 1, 2011. She was the devoted wife of the late Ambrose Paul Feeney for 52 years and daughter of the late Henry Laing Kirkendall, M.D. and Bertha Laverty Kirkendall. "Mary Lou" graduated from North High School in Worcester, MA and received her B.A. from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia and her Masters from the University of Connecticut-Storrs. Her career began as a social worker for the City of Hartford. She later taught in the elementary schools of Glastonbury public school system. Always an active volunteer, she was twice president of the Women's Guild (Holy Cross Church, Vero Beach, FL), and the League of the Sacred Heart, Woman's Club, and Mission House all of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Glastonbury, CT . She enjoyed many years with the South Glastonbury Community Club and The Woman's Stock Club. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Treasure Coast Chapter) as a descendent of Captain Zebulen Butler. She leaves seven daughters: Mary Elizabeth (Francis X.) Giacoma of Glenmont, NY, Kathleen Marie (Joel Van Sickler, M.D.) of Fort Myers, FL, Margaret Anne (Geoffrey) Horrax of Farmington, CT, Berta Ellen Feeney of Scottsdale, AZ, Jayne Butler Feeney of York, ME, Paula Anne Feeney of Glastonbury, CT, and Joanne Gately Feeney of Glastonbury, CT; six grandchildren: Caitlin (Matthew) Van Sickler Schultheis, M.D., Michael Giacoma, Sarah Horrax, Andrew Van Sickler, Christopher Horrax, and Jordan Van Sickler; and one great-grandchild: Rose Marie Schultheis. She is survived by three siblings: Georgene McKernan Harrison, Henry Laing Kirkendall, M.D. and Margaret Kirkendall. Mary Lou's family would like to thank her caregivers at Hope Hospice for their wonderful care during the past two years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday August 16, at10:00am in St Paul Church, 2577 Main Street, Glastonbury. Burial will follow in Green Cemetery, Glastonbury.
