Obituary of Photine Sterling

Photine (Eliopoulos) Sterling, 73, of Marlborough, CT., died June 23, 2011 at the Marlborough Health Care Center. Photine was born September 21, 1937 in Corinth, Greece and was the daughter of the late Spiros and Athena Eliopoulos. Photine or "yaya" as she was known, was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Photine was an excellent chef and avid gardener. She improved everything she touched and everyone who knew her. Photine will always be remembered for her generosity, thoughtfulness, zest for life and extreme beauty inside and out. She worked tirelessly to help others, including volunteering in the Greek Orthodox Community in Bethesda, MD, Portsmouth, NH and Fredricksburg, VA. She is survived by her children; Yara Athena Sterling Montminy of Glastonbury, CT, Elisa Grace Sterling Vega of Durango, CO., Walter Crooker Sterling, III of Fredricksburg, VA; three grandchildren Niko Montminy, Alex Montminy, Victor Vega, and three siblings, Zoe Bizanis of Hamden, CT, Aristides Eliopoulos of Newport, RI, and Theodora Cavaliero of NY,NY. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 28 at 11:30am in St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Rd., Orange, CT. Burial will follow in Beaverdale Cemetery, Hamden, CT. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. All are welcome to join the family for the church service, burial and for a luncheon at the church.
