Obituary of Thomas O'Leary

Thomas J. O'Leary, 79, of Glastonbury, husband of Sandra (Rhodes) O'Leary, died Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Hartford Hospital. Born July 23, 1932 in Hartford, CT, son of the late Thomas F. O'Leary and Helen (Breen) O'Leary, he lived in Glastonbury 45 years. Tom graduated from Hartford High where he was a standout baseball player. He served in the US Army and broke batting records playing for the US Army baseball team in Germany and Texas. He worked for the State of Connecticut Retirement Division. Tom coached in Glastonbury Little League, taught CCD, was an avid sports fan, and the greatest fan Frank Sinatra ever had. He is survived by his beloved wife Sandra with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. He also leaves 3 children, Mimi Linden of Beverly, MA, Sean O'Leary and his wife Lauren of Trumbull, and Colleen and her husband Peter Beacham of Needham, MA. Known as Poppy to his 9 grandchildren, he will be missed by Emma, Madeline and Riley Linden, Jack, Kate and Kelly O'Leary and Thomas, Caroline and Grace Beacham. Tom also leaves his aunt Estelle Knurek of Wethersfield, sister-in-law Barbara O'Leary of Florida, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother William O'Leary. The funeral service will be Tuesday (Feb. 7, 2012) 9:15 from the Mulryan Funeral Home 725 Hebron Ave. Glastonbury followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Patrick/St. Anthony Church, Hartford. Burial will be private at a later date. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday (Feb. 6, 2012) form 4-7 pm.
