Obituary of Jack Landon

Jack West Landon, 91, died February 4, 2015, in his beloved adopted home town of Glastonbury, CT. Jack was born in St Louis, Missouri September 1, 1923, the only child of Elmer and Eleanor (Sweet) Landon. He moved east to attend Dartmouth College in 1941. His college years were interrupted by service in WWII where he served with distinction in the Army Air Force, 462d Bomber Group in North Africa, India, and China. He flew 39 combat missions in "Our Gal", one the first B-29s taken into combat, including many over "the Hump" above the Himalayas, earning him the Distinguished Flying Cross. In 1946 Jack graduated from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth with a Masters in business administration, and married his much loved wife of nearly 69 years, Barbara Clark. For most of his career, Jack worked as warehouse and transportation superintendent for A&P in Providence, R.I. and East Hartford, settling with his family in Glastonbury in 1963. A talented tenor, Jack had a great love of music. He took part in many local theater productions and sang with church and choral groups in both Glastonbury and Barrington, R.I. He is survived by his wife, daughter Ann (Cohen), sons Jack Jr., Richard, Howard, and Charles, as well as 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A memorial celebration of his life will be scheduled in Glastonbury in the spring. Memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
