Obituary of Walter Hemlock

Walter F. Hemlock, 85, of Glastonbury, died Friday (January 23rd, 2015) peacefully at home. He was the beloved husband of 47 years of the late Inez M. Hemlock. Born August 26, 1929, in Waterbury, CT, he had lived in Glastonbury for over 60 years. He received his Bachelor of Engineering with high honors from Yale University in 1951. Immediately following, he began his 35-year career at Pratt and Whitney, retiring as an Engineering executive. Walter held many elected and appointed positions in Glastonbury and was involved in a great number of boards, commissions, and organizations. Among these were: Board of Finance for 30 years, Recreation Commission serving two years as chairman, Charter Revision Committee, Public Buildings Commission, High School Facilities Study Committee, Welles Street/Liebler Property Planning Commission, East Glastonbury Public Library Board of Governors, Republican Town Committee, Glastonbury Country Club Board of Governors, Connecticut Bar Association Grievance Panel member, St. Dunstan's Church Parish Council and St. Dunstan's Church Board of Trustees. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed gardening, painting, woodworking, bowling, and was a sports enthusiast. He traveled throughout Europe, Asia, and the US, and enjoyed world history. Many benefited from his sage advice and mentoring. Above all, he cherished good times with his family and friends, when all enjoyed his wonderful wit, his warmth, and great kindness. He is survived by his three loving daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Robert Ahlschlager, Ginny and David Roscoe, Dianne Hemlock, all of Glastonbury; four grandchildren, Philip and Lynn Ahlschlager, and Michael and Nicholas Hajek. He is also survived by a sister and her husband, Ann Marie and Raymond Parcella, of Wallingford, and many nephews and nieces. Walter also leaves his dear friend Lib Archer, also of Glastonbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 30 at 11:30am in the Church of St. Dunstan, 1345 Manchester Rd., Glastonbury. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury, Thursday Jan. 29, from 5-8pm.
