Obituary of Linda Funderburk

Linda (Owen) Funderburk, 70, of Glastonbury, beloved wife of James O. Funderburk, passed Wednesday, January 7, 2015, from a sudden illness. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, September 7, 1944 to the late Howard J. and Gertrude (Turczyn) Owen. Linda graduated with a BA from Wake Forest University, and worked as a teacher before earning her Series 6 & 7 licenses and working for ING for 15 years and H&R Block for 11 years. In her spare time, Linda enjoyed kayaking, house plants, vegetable gardening, and was a member of the Tallwood Women's Golf Club. She was an avid hiker and an unbelievable cook. She travelled up and down the east coast visiting golf courses with her husband. Her weekly passion was singing soprano in the South Glastonbury Congregational Church choir where she was also an active representative to the Christian Activities Council of Hartford. Besides her husband, Linda is survived by her three children, Laura of Middletown, Karl of Plainville, Mark, and his wife Leigh, of Southbury, and her three grandchildren, Otto, Theresa, and Lucia. She is also survived by her sister Brenda Johnston, and her husband David, of Raleigh, NC and nieces Kelly (Johnston) Bloom, Bevin Johnston, Renira (Treadway) Brennan and nephews Garth Treadway, Maurice Treadway. Linda was predeceased by her sister Arlene Treadway. Calling hours will be held Saturday, January 10 from 1pm to 5pm at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. A memorial service will be held, Monday, January 12, at 10a.m. in the Congregational Church of South Glastonbury, 949 Main St., South Glastonbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Christian Activities Council, 47 Vine St., Hartford, CT 06112, and/or the Congregational Church of South Glastonbury.
