Obituary of Bonifacio Martocchio

Bonifacio "Benjamin" Louis Martocchio, 85, a lifelong resident of East Hartford, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2011 with his loving family by his side. Ben was the devoted husband of the late Angela (Ercolano) Martocchio. He was born on January 30, 1926 to the late Emilio and Elvira (Tarquinio) Martocchio. He retired from the City of Hartford in 1991 after 36 years of dedicated service. Ben proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II on a mine sweeper from 1944 to 1946 and received numerous medals of commendation for heroic duty. An enthusiastic fly fisherman, Ben spent many days tying intricate flies and wading through his favorite rivers and streams. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Washington Redskins and New York Yankees. Ben was a kind, humble and soft-spoken gentleman who always treated everyone with dignity and respect and had a positive outlook on life. Benjamin is survived by his loving children; Diane Blanchette and her husband Ray of Manchester, Michael Martocchio of Hollywood, FL, Janice Snyder and her husband Mark of South Windsor and Lori Solomon and her husband Mark of Avon; his grandchildren Randy Gudauskas, Mark Martocchio, Jeffrey and David Snyder, Matthew and Michael Solomon, Michael Martocchio and Shelley Potterton; three great-grandchildren; his brothers and their spouses Emilio and Dolores, George and Alice, Joseph and Terry, Louis and Luci. He was predeceased by his brother Albert, sister Jean Hawkins and his dear four legged friend, Max. Funeral service will be Tuesday Oct 18, at 11:00 a.m. in the Mulryan Funeral Home 725 Hebron Ave Glastonbury. Burial with full military honors will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery East Hartford.
