Obituary of Louis Luther

Louis H. Luther of Glastonbury died on December 12, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. He was born on January 13, 1938 in Hartford, CT, son of Francis and Mildred (Morrison) Luther. Besides his loving wife, Elizabeth (Viola), he is survived by a daughter Susan Banks of East Hartford, a son Christopher and daughter-in-law Laura of Killingworth, and sister Joanne Pappas of Rocky Hill. He was pre-deceased by brothers Edward, James, Merle, Francis, and his sisters Jane Merriman and Martha McCarthy. He leaves six grandchildren, Katherine and Christina Hudson, Megan and Amanda Banks, and twins Ryan and Sam Luther as well as many nieces and nephews. A graduate of Hartford High School, Lou worked for many years at Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. and as a Sales Representative for Finlay Brothers. Recently, he worked part-time for New England Stream & Field in the Orvis Department and as the Bulletin Editor for St. Augustine and St. Paul Churches in Glastonbury. He served 13 years in the USAR as a non-commissioned and commission officer. He was a Past Grand Knight, Council 2533, Past Faithful Navigator and a Honorary Life Member of the K of C. He was Past-President of the Glastonbury High School Booster Club. He loved fly-fishing and was co-founder of the Salmon River Anglers Association. The family would like to thank the staff on the Neurology Trauma Unit, 9th Floor for the care and compassion shown to them and Lou. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday Dec.16 at 10am in St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Rd., South Glastonbury. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Monday Dec. 15 from 4-6pm.
