Obituary of Rena Harrod

Rena M. (Accornero) Harrod, 102, of South Glastonbury and Boca Raton, FL, wife of the late Robert E. Harrod, died Tuesday September 16, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. At 18, she was the youngest business owner in Hartford, having started her own beauty parlor on the corner of Main St. and Asylum Ave (Corning Building). Several years later she sold her business to join the U.S. Army and served as a WAC for three years during World War II, taking care of wounded soldiers here in the United States. Following World War II, Rena worked for Joseph Jay Photography Studios in Hartford as an artist until she married Robert in 1948 and moved to Florida. She has been a widow since 1992 and is survived by her two loving daughters, Deborah Harrod of South Glastonbury, Carla Harrod Mann and her husband George Mann of Toronto, Canada and Palm Beach, FL. Funeral service will be Tuesday Sept. 23 at 11:00am in the First Church of Christ, Congregational, 2183 Main St., Glastonbury. Entombment will be in Boca Raton, FL. There are no calling hours.
