Obituary of Evelyn Pontillo
Evelyn (Potter) Pontillo, 72, of Glastonbury, beloved wife of Clement J. Pontillo, Jr. for more than 49 years, departed this life on Wednesday, December 21, 2011. Evelyn was born in the Day Kimble Hospital in Putnam, CT., on September 19, 1939 to her parents, the late Richard S. and Frances (Newton) Potter, who were residing in Danielson, CT at the time. The family later moved to Glastonbury and Evelyn grew up here attending local schools and graduating from Glastonbury High School. She was then employed as secretary to the Glastonbury Branch Manager of First Federal Savings and Loan Association. It was at this time that she met Clement. She and Clement then married and she suspended her working career while raising three children. After the children were on their own she returned to the workforce as a Medical Assistant to Dr. James Rosokoff until she retired in 2007. Evelyn loved to travel and visit historic sites. She loved the beach and saltwater and she particularly enjoyed her summers vacationing on Cape Cod. She and Clement honeymooned on Cape Cod and they returned there every summer since. It was her favorite vacation spot. She enjoyed women's basketball and was an ardent UCONN women's basketball fan. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational in Glastonbury and has been a very active member, having served on the Board of Deacons and various other committees. She loved the church and made many wonderful friends there over her many years of membership, which exceeded forty years. Evelyn was a giving and caring person and did volunteer work throughout the community including FISH and Junior Women's Club. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Family life was very dear to her. She was committed to her family and always placed other people's desires and needs before her own. She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a beautiful, loving, caring, courageous and compassionate person. She spent the past five years waging a courageous battle against various health issues. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Clement J. Pontillo, III, of Wilmington, NC, her daughter, Susan M. Palen and her husband Erik, and their son, Evelyn's grandson, Aiden, of East Hampton, CT, her son, Jeffrey R. Pontillo, of Boulder, CO., her sister, Marilyn P. Stears and her husband, Ronald, of Danielson, CT., her nephew, Michael A. Stears and his wife, Cindy, of Wilmington, DE., her niece, Laura L.
