Obituary of Richard Tomkievich
Richard H. Tomkievich, 80, of Glastonbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday March 10, 2014 at home. Born January 27, 1934 in Glastonbury, son of the late Frank and Stephanie Tomkievich. He had several successful business achievements including Glastonbury Landscaping and Mermaid Pool & Spa, which were established in 1965 and still in operation. He was an active member of the Elks Club and the Glastonbury Rotary Club. His hobbies included golfing, and supporting UCONN football, but his true compassion was fishing of any kind. Richard served as a medic in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. For the past 40 years he enjoyed the winters in the sun in Marathon Florida where he made many friends from all over the country. Richard is survived by his three sons Richard, Jr., David and Joseph, three granddaughters Courtney, Nicole and Caitlyn, as well as a brother Edward and nephew Edward Jr. A Mass of Christian will be celebrated on Friday March 14 at 10am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the ALS Association, 1275 K Street, Suite 250, Washington, DC 20005.
