Obituary of William Crowley
William A. Crowley, Jr., 93, of Glastonbury, devoted husband of the late Margaret (Hayden) Crowley and loving father, died Thursday February 20, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. Born August 18, 1920 in the Bronx, son of the late William A., Sr. and Ernestine (Meyer) Crowley, he had lived in Glastonbury since 1965. Bill attended St. John's University while working at SAKS. He enlisted in the US Coast Guard in January 1942, shipping out with the US Navy to the Pacific, whereby his ships participated in six major island invasion operations with the US Marine Corp infantry. After his honorable discharge he went to work for Standard Oil Co. of California (Chevron) and after 37 years he retired as New England Regional Retail Manager. In his retirement he did management consulting work for Hendels Inc, a petroleum distributor in CT. Bill devoted 38 years to coaching little league baseball and youth football and was on the staff of Glastonbury High School football. He was a member and former president of the CT. Petroleum Council. Bill is survived by his three children; his daughter Kathleen Crowley of Glastonbury, his two sons and their wives, James and Cheryl Crowley of Sacramento, CA, Terrance and Barbara Crowley of Old Lyme, six grandchildren, Timothy, Christopher, Kiersten, Kristin, Meagan and Shannon and six great grandchildren, Liam, Hayden, Ireland, Madelynn, Kaitlyn and Avery. He was predeceased by a grandson Sean. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Doctors and staff in the Conklin Building at Hartford Hospital for their care and compassion, as well as to Bill's neighbors and close friends who loved and cared for him throughout the years. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday February 25, at 10am in St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Rd., South Glastonbury. Burial will follow with military honors in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O.
