Obituary of Paul Leger
Paul Joseph Leger, of East Hartford, husband of Yvonne (Gagnon) Leger, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the age of 65. He was born on December 24, 1947 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts and was the only son of Leo Joseph Leger and Alva (Richard) Leger. Paul graduated from Lunenburg High School in Lunenburg, Massachusetts in 1966. He joined the United States Marine Corps on June 30, 1966 and served in Vietnam until his honorable discharge on August 26, 1969. He took great pride in his service to his country, despite the many disabilities resulting from his service. Paul's employments included Superior Electric in Southington, New Departure (General Motors) in Bristol, a bus driver for the Glastonbury School System, a subcontractor for Glastonbury Carpet Workshop and Danaher Tool Group in West Hartford. Paul enjoyed dancing, woodworking, playing his guitar, tennis, volleyball, karate and being a ham radio operator. Governor Ella Grasso deemed that all who assisted in the Blizzard of 1978 could have their call sign as their license plate. He joined the Connecticut Sports Club with one of his closest friends, Bob Bachman and was a member for many years. He and Yvonne also met through the Connecticut Sports Club and were disco dance partners. Camping was a passion for Paul, Yvonne and the family for many years. Their fondest years were at their seasonal campsite at Wilderness Lake where they made so many wonderful friends. So many other wonderful friends were made as part of the Steubenville Retreat where Paul gained a lot of comfort and spiritual support. In addition to his wife of 31 years, Paul is survived by his son, Dan Leger and his wife Becky of Suffield, his son Matt Leger of East Hartford, his grandchildren Leo and Emma Leger of Suffield as well as his first wife, mother of his first son, Dan, and friend, Linda Buccheri of East Hartford. A special thank you to the Veterans Association in Newington, Connecticut who gave him so much assistance the past five years and to Rev. James Nock of Our Lady of Peace Church in East Hartford who provided so much spiritual guidance to the entire family. Funeral service will be Saturday Dec. 28 at 9:45am from the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury to Our Lady of Peace Church, East Hartford for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Burial with full military honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday Dec. 27 from 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KN. 66675. For online condolences please visit www.mulryanfh.com.
