Obituary of Nancy Manter

Nancy Larcom Manter joined her late husband of 60 years, John R. Manter, on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 surrounded by her family. Born, March 14, 1931, to Gordon D. and Marjorie Elliott Larcom, in Massachusetts. Nancy was always a volunteer in her community. She was involved with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Buckingham Congregational Church, Hospice, Meals on Wheels, and local politics in the League of Women Voters and as a worker at the polls. Her hands were always busy with knitting or Sudoku or word puzzles. She enjoyed cross-country skiing, tennis, camping, following UCONN women's basketball, playing cards, trips to St. John, USVI, and most importantly, spending time with her family and friends. She is a graduate of Bates College where she met Jack, the love of her life. She was also valedictorian in both high school and college. She worked in education in the public schools in South Dartmouth, MA and Glastonbury, CT. Nancy is survived by her children James Manter of CT, Kirk Manter of RI, Donald Manter of FL and Marjorie St. John of MA. She also leaves 4 grandchildren, 3 brothers and 1 sister. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 29 at 10:00 A.M. in Buckingham Congregational Church, 16 Cricket Lane, Glastonbury. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Buckingham Congregational Church.
