She was born on April 30, 1926, at Leed’s House, Miltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland to John Francis and Ellen (Curtain) O’Connor. After finishing her education, she moved to Dublin, employed at the St. Regis Hotel and the Raheny House where she was in charge of the dining room for Lady Pel. Margaret immigrated to the United States in 1948, sponsored by her aunt, Nora O’Connor Dickson, of East Hartford, CT. She began working at Travelers Insurance Company within a week of her arrival. She worked in the Accounting and Loan Department until her retirement in 1986 and continued to work as a temp in the Executive Department until 1994. “Peg” was a member of the Travelers’ Girls Club, Bowling numerous awards as well as the U.S. Dance Club Trophy. Always busy, she worked at Sage Allen and Brown Thompson Department stores during the holidays and modeled fashion gowns as well! Peg was always proud of her Irish heritage and was a member of the Irish Club in Glastonbury, participating in the Irish Fest and Saturday night dinners. After leaving Travelers she worked as a companion/caretaker for senior clients until 2008, allowing them to remain in their own home. Peg always wanted to have her own home and purchased a house in Hebron. She lived there for many years before moving to the Herbert T. Clark House in Glastonbury where she resided for fourteen years. Most recently, she was a resident at West Hartford Health and Rehabilitation Center.
