Liz was my aunt and godmother and I have so many memories of her that go back some 50 years, from Livingstone Lane to Parsons Beach, Manchester Road, Biddeford Pool, Peach Tree Road and Kennebunkport. She is part of a long line of women who, like her mother, grandmother, aunts, cousins, sisters and nieces, dedicated their lives to both their families and others, as educators, caretakers, nurses and more. She was fun and funny, witty and fiercely intelligent. She embodied the strength of the formidable and selfless women in my family. I hope Paul, John, and Brian will be buoyed and find solace recalling their great fortune of having had her as their wife and mother. She left an indelible mark on my life and I will remember her forever..

I remember walking dogs with Liz and Cathy up Tall Timbers. We were talking and climbing and laughing and just having such a great time chatting. Good times not forgotten. Liz was all about the FUN! A woman to be missed.

Mrs. Catarius was kind and caring to every student or parent she encountered at Emerson-Williams. She allowed my family to share how we celebrate Three Kings Day with the students and encouraged former students to complete their Girl Scout Bronze award in the school courtyard. Once I asked, Mrs. Catarius how do you remember all of the 498 students' names and their parents? She responded, Mrs. Vasel when you love what you do you find a way to remember everyone's name you encounter. Mrs. Catarius you were a class act, ICON, and simply the best!

Our hearts are heavy hearing about the loss of Mrs.Catarius! We feel so lucky our kids had been at Emerson Williams during her tenure! She was a wonderful person and the best Principal! She was kind, compassionate and a terrific school Principal! She ran a tight ship, but EW benefitted from her leadership! I also had the pleasure of working for her for a little bit! We would always chat about cooking! I could tell she was an amazing cook! One time she said to me “Do you know what my #1 job at the school is Robin?” I said “to educate the kids?” She said “ No, it’s to keep them safe so they can learn and be educated!” I never forgot that 20 years later! She was so spot on!! Emerson excelled as the best elementary school because of her! Our prayers and condolences to her family at her passing! There is sorrow on earth because she left us, but heaven definitely gained an amazing angel!

I am so saddened to hear of your loss. She was an amazing leader, Principal and Educator. As her school nurse she was grateful and appreciative of my role. The first thing she said to me when I started was " my Mother and sister are nurses, I have a great respect for nurses". I am filled with gratitude to have worked with her.

So many of my childhood memories include Mrs. Catarious. I remember she always had the best ice cream in the freezer! I remember climbing Mount. Washington and coming over to spend time with Braun, Trisha, George and all the other dogs. I always valued her brutally honest opinions. She was a leader and never afraid to speak her mind. Liz helped me become a teacher, all through school and my first few years in the classroom she was my go to for everything. She found time (even at the very last minute) to help me plan out my observations and goals as a teacher.
My most recent memories are listening to her tell stories about her days with Vivian. That little girl stole her heart from day 1! Thank you for being such a big part of our lives and for being my mom’s best friend. Paul, John and Brian, we are always here for you!

Liz made me feel welcome and like family. She always greeted me with a warm smile and twinkling eyes. I loved her accent and how she made me feel seen. Liz had a way of making you feel better just by being her vivacious authentic self. I will miss her dearly. I love you Liz. S.I.P.

Liz was a favorite stop on our daily dog walks, when she always had a treat for Elvis. He still insists on pausing at her house to see if she will come out. She will be missed.

She was a tough act to follow. Liz was so much fun and will be terribly missed and loved by many. I loved for years she would come to Maine always coming to see her sister (my mother). Another angel got their wings. I will love you always.
