Allison Joyce Comstock Hobbs, 84, of South Glastonbury, wife of Joseph O. Hobbs, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 19th. Born on Feb. 18, 1929 in Millinocket, Maine, she was one of seven children. Her parents Kit and Gerald Comstock ran the Fuller Furniture store which sold furniture, paints and housewares. Allison graduated from Stearns High School and then the University of Maine, Orono, where she majored in Sociology and received an award for outstanding student. Her nick name was Ally-Jo. After college she attended the Catherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston, MA, where she was class Valedictorian . Allison met her husband Joe while he worked at the Great Northern Paper Mill in Maine. Their wedding took place on July 5th and they have been married for sixty-one years. Allison and Joe left Maine when Joe began work at Pratt and Whitney. They lived in Vernon for fourteen years and then settled in Glastonbury where they have lived since 1965. Allison did secretarial work when she moved to Connecticut and later was a stay at home mother. When her children were older she began work as a science aide at Glastonbury High School. Allison saved the money she made as a science aide to take a trip to Florida. They liked it so much they bought a condo in Punta Gorda and lived as snow birds for fifteen years. Allison was active during her leisure time. She received recognition for being a long-time blood donor. She turned her love of books into volunteer work at the South Glastonbury library. She was a fabulous cook, loved gardening with planting both flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed canning preserves and jams and made her own Kahlua and wine. She also loved big band music. Above all she loved her family. Besides her husband Joseph, Allison leaves a son Joseph Hobbs of East Hampton, and 2 daughters, Corinne Hobbs of East Hampton and Kit Hobbs of Glastonbury. She also leaves a brother, Gerald and his wife Raelene of Millinocket, ME and manynieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 3 brothers, Reginald, Wesley, Charles and 2 sisters Corinne and Helen. Her family gives thanks to Buckingham Estates, a memory care community, for their care and compassion shown to Allison while she resided there for over a year.
