Obituary of Ann P. Heaney
Ann Parshley Heaney, age 82, died peacefully on May 19, 2024 after a courageous journey with cancer.
Ann was born and raised in Glastonbury, daughter of Mary Howe and Paul Cone Parshley, granddaughter of Jesse Robinson and Louis Wadsworth Howe. She attended Glastonbury schools and graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1959. Ann went on to study at Endicott Junior College and then to nursing school at Columbia University, graduating in 1964. She worked as a visiting nurse for many years, bringing healthcare to underserved families in both rural and urban communities, from 125th Street in Harlem to rural areas outside Akron, Ohio, to the north end of Hartford. She loved her years delivering early intervention services to babies through the VNA and the CT Birth to Three System with Project First Step in Hartford’s north end where she was loyal to and cherished the families she served. Ann completed her master’s degree in early childhood education at St. Joseph’s College in West Hartford and began working at Connecticut Children's Medical Center the year it opened in 1996. While at CCMC she continued to care for babies and young children, with a special dedication to children with disabilities. She cherished her co-workers most of all, which kept her working until she retired in 2017 at age 75.
Ann is survived by her three children, Chris and his wife Rachel in Pensacola, Florida; Jennifer Carroll and her husband Marty in Glastonbury; and Scott and his wife Monica in Glastonbury. Few meant more to her than her 9 grandchildren, Christopher, William, Jack, Kaitlyn, Jamie, Mattie, Halle, Tyler and Josh. She is also survived by her brother Paul and his wife Cathy in Boston, MA., and sisters Jane, in Marblehead, MA. and Martha, in Chapel Hill, NC. Ann was predeceased by her younger sister Sally in 2020.
Ann loved the holidays and decorating her home through each season of the year. She enjoyed Broadway shows and the theater, going to the gym and for long walks with friends, time with her grandchildren, including attending years of sports events, and gatherings with family. She enjoyed summers at Cornfield Point in Old Saybrook, traveling, and socializing with friends. Like a true South Glastonbury native, Ann loved to reminisce about having grown up on Main Street, where she attended High Street School and loved visiting the South Glastonbury library, attending Grange parades, skating on pond pasture and going to drive-in movies on the corner of Route 17 in Portland. She served with pride on the board of the Glastonbury Free Academy for many years and was always interested in the town’s history and her family’s legacy. Ann loved to laugh, maintaining her love of life and sense of humor throughout her nearly four-year battle with cancer.
A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 915 Main St., South Glastonbury on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11:00 am. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
