Obituary of Deacon Martin Jacques

Deacon Martin Jacques 88 years old, of Glastonbury and Holiday, FL., loving husband to Priscilla "Pat" Jacques for 67 years, died peacefully on Thursday August 22, 2013 while surrounded by his family. Born August 30, 1924 in Manchester, NH, son of the late Joseph and Clara (Lessard) Jacques he had lived in Glastonbury since 1953. Prior to his retirement he owned and operated JMJ Concrete Construction. He was ordained a deacon on July 13, 1979. He served the St. Paul Roman Catholic church in Glastonbury, CT. As a deeply Spiritual man, his ministry focused on the sick and elderly. He is a great listener who provided comfort for all who sought his counsel. He was a member and past President of the St. Paul Men's Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Besides his wife he is survived by his six children and their spouses; Denise and Bob Hammond of Holiday, FL, Michael and Vicki Jacques of Scotland, CT, Peter and Linda Jacques of Columbia, CT, Jean and Patti Jacques of Marlborough CT, Lizette and Jon Hykes of Glastonbury CT, Dianne and Bill Munsell of Andover, CT, a brother Gerard Jacques a sister Anita Branchard both of Canada. He also leaves ten grandchildren; Amanda Nagurney, Jim Hammond, Rebecca Hammond, Matthew Jacques, Aimee Jacques, Shawn Jacques, Christopher and Ashley Jacques, Gigi Neal, Tommy Hykes, and nine great grandchildren; Joe, Piper Jane, Freyja, Makayla, Lea, Heather, Mason, Jacob, Julianna and his dog Sweetie. He has a fantastic sense of humor, loved to play cards with his friends and cribbage with his sons. He loved working with his hands and constantly helping family and friends with renovations. He is a loving, kind, generous, compassionate man who always thought about others before himself. He is known for his sparkling blue eyes and genuine smile. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday August 26 at 11am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury (everyone please meet directly at church). Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Sunday August 25 from 2-6pm.
