Obituary of Annelies Koenig

Annelies Koenig, 86, of Glastonbury passed away peacefully on Feb 10, 2024 after a long battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Annelies was born on June 4, 1937 in Marktleuthen, Germany. She was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband, Otto Koenig, as well as her 7 brothers and sisters.

She immigrated to Connecticut in 1961 with her husband. They resided in Hartford and Windsor before settling in Glastonbury for the last 46 years.

Annelies’ favorite days were spent with her family and friends at the cottage on Lake Williams or at home, always bringing everyone together with her delicious home-cooked meals. She loved to be outdoors working in her many beautiful gardens. Annelies also loved to travel the world with her husband. She especially enjoyed traveling with her family back to her native Germany to visit relatives and spend time in the Austrian Alps.

Annelies adored her grandchildren and she never missed an opportunity to cheer each of them on at their many music, theater, dance, sporting, or scouting events. She cherished the times when all her grandchildren visited the cottage in the summer where they would swim, bake, stargaze, canoe, and play games.

Annelies’ life was a testament to her kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her family.  She will be remembered fondly as a remarkable woman whose caring spirit touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed by those that knew her.

Annelies is survived by her daughters, Elisabeth & husband Kyle MacAfee and Carola & husband Michael Frantzen; and her 5 precious grandchildren, Katarina, Ian, and Cameron MacAfee and Stephen Frantzen & wife Gaby and Amanda Frantzen & husband Kyle Merry; along with many nieces and nephews in Germany.

A memorial service in honor of Annelies will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 11 am at Grace Lutheran Church, 46 Woodland Street, Hartford CT 06105. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society at https://www.cancer.org/donate.
