Obituary of James Reed Shellington

James Reed Shellington of Glastonbury, Connecticut and Fort Myers, Florida, husband of Jeanne Tessier Shellington died on December 25th 2023. He was born on August 20, 1936. He was the son of the late Frederick James Shellington and Mildred Gillette Shellington. Jim graduated from William H. Hall High School, and the University of Hartford. He worked for the Town of West Hartford, the Fafnir Bearing Company, and spent 30 years at Pratt & Whitney, Division of United Technologies Corporation, in Construction and Maintenance Equipment, Material, and Test Fuel Management, retiring in 1993. Jim was a nationally licensed Competition Driver, a driving school instructor, and a Divisional Steward in the road racing program of the Sports Car Club of America. He participated in races at Thompson, Lime Rock, Mt Equinox Hill Climb, Briar Motorsports Park, and Norridgewalk Airport. He was a licensed private pilot, a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and the Porsche Club of America. After marrying Jeanne in 1968, he moved to Glastonbury where he and Jeanne raised their children. Jim was a devoted husband and loving father. He and his family spent many years, beginning in 1981, boating in the waters around Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New York. In later years, their boating activities included the Caloosahatchee River, and the waters around Fort Myers, Sanibel, Captiva Islands, and Estero Bay. Jim was a nature and sports photographer. He and Jeanne spent many days photographing light houses on the East Coast, from Maine to Florida. Survivors include the joys of Jim's life, his wife Jeanne, his son Justin and wife Betty Shellington, and his daughter Sara and her husband Arthur Shaughnessy Jr as well as grandchildren Donovan Jack and Ava Joan Shaughnessy.
