Rawlins Family-
I'm so sorry to hear of Michael's passing. I worked with Michael in my first 'real job' out of college, Tallan. He was a leader, mentor and above all, a true friend. When Tallan downsized, Michael stayed in contact with me recruiting me to the next company he worked for, MassMutual. After I left MassMutual, we stayed in touch periodically. He spoke dearly of his wife and bragged about how talented she was a house staging. Dylan and Melissa, I can go on and on about how much he praised you both, he was very proud.
Please know you're in my thoughts and prayers. Your husband/dad was a great, admirable man!

I knew Michael as the older brother of Marilyn, my childhood best friend. He always took time to interact with us as we ran in and out of the Rawlins house, and always asked about my family when he saw me. He was kind, present and positive about life; a true comfort to be around. As we all grew older, it is obvious his giving heart continued to grow and touch so many people throughout his lifetime. I am deeply saddened for the family and those who had the opportunity to know him. He truly made life special for those of us here on earth and he will be greatly missed.

In addition to all the other teaching and mentoring that Michael did, he was also a popular instructor for Credit-Free computer classes in Continuing Education at Manchester Community College. Michael was always enthusiastically introducing the latest concepts to adult students who were changing careers, becoming or staying current in an ever changing technological environment. He shared his joy for life with his students and all those around him. He always found work arounds rather than becoming discouraged when our technology had trouble keeping up with his imagination. He was a visionary and a pleasure to know!

I knew Michael as a child, through my younger sister Lee Keiper Winter. Lee and Michael were childhood friends, and I always knew him to be a very special person in her life. Lee is very proud of her friend Michael, a very smart, accomplished and kind human, who as a young man was in her heart, and always will be remembered fondly by the Keiper family.

As a former BHS alum, Michael and I crossed paths several years ago when he was still at EPSN. Michael was a wonderfully kind, intelligent man, and one of the nicest, most helpful people I have ever met. I am so saddened and shocked to learn of his passing. He will be missed by so many. My Sincerest Heartfelt Condolences to this entire family.
Godspeed, Michael.

I never met Michael, but heard many wonderful anecdotes about him. What a compliment of his character, to always be spoken of so highly by a college-aged daughter to her mom.
My daughter is a recent Hobart William Smith alum and Michael generously stayed in her life. I believe they met in her junior year, when Megan was a tour guide on the campus. They had soccer in common, and Michael mentored her as she planned for her post-graduation career. She heard about job opportunities at ESPN in Connecticut, and he stayed in touch when she chose a career in NYC after graduating.
This is not my story to tell, but I do want to let the Rawlins family know how highly regarded he was, and the impact he had on my family, the HWS community, and ‘the world’. Megan was always so happy after talking to him - he had a magical ability to make her feel uplifted. I feel the loss, without having met him, so I can only imagine the tremendous loss to his family.
Sending love and peace to all of you, across the miles -
Julie Barwick

Michael was a special person who touched so many. I got COVID and unfortunately cannot attend services in person. I first met Michael at The Hartford where he patiently educated me about the world of UX and being customer centric. He had such a level of acumen and engagement which made him such a strong team member. We’ve stayed in touch over the years well - mainly because of his “catch-up soon?” Msgs. He was so proud of Rhonda and her work as well as Melissa and Dylan and their continued growth as people.
I also share his personal dashboard which he recently sent to me - a testament to his drive and ability to share information visually to great effect. He had wanted to chat about ideas he had to manage his many responsibilities.
You will be greatly missed my friend but know the impact you have had on thousands of others in your life and the foundation you’ve built for all of them to live “lives of consequence”.

I had the pleasure of working with Michael at ESPN. It became immediately evident how talented he was, in addition to having such an overall positive attitude. But as I found out, that was nothing compared to the pride and love he had for his family.
The more we corresponded, the more we discovered that we had so much in common. From residing in the same town, children of the same age and attending same the same High School, liking the same local establishments to Michael's Hobart Soccer team playing against my U of R school and many more commonalities. He even noticed my Montreal Expos logo in our messaging app and discovered a commonality for that.
But the most impressive thing I discovered was him expressing what his children were pursuing and the intense pride he showed while describing it. I can't imagine a Dad having more pride in his family than he did.
I am so sorry to the family for this profound loss of such an amazing man. He was, and continues to be, a remarkable soul that will never, ever be forgotten.

Michael was one of my favorite people at ESPN. Always upbeat, always moving ahead, always trying to help or just to connect, because he knew connecting with people and genuinely sharing of himself would always lead to something better. That’s what he did - he made everyone and everything better. My heart goes to his family, who have all lost a wonderful daily presence in their lives.

I met Mike at MassMutual and observed him as he defined a proper UX strategy for the organization. He was a breath of fresh air for me, showcasing clean and clear designs. Thanks to him, I gained an understanding of proper UX designs which I still refer to today. He and I spent many hours strategizing about the organization while commuting together for a few years.
I have numerous memories of Mike, but two stand out. One involves him consistently sending me new UI designs to test through a UX design test site. I would receive a ping from him saying, "hey Dubes, check out this design and test it for me?”. I loved these notes. Mike’s work was always very very good.
My second vivid recollection is when Mike was appointed to Hobart Board of Trustees. He was so happy and proud to represent his school and play an active role in it's growth. I will miss you Mike

Years ago, when Michael and I worked at MassMutual, he kindly spent time with my late wife, Patty, describing his hip replacements. She was comforted by his encouragement, and so she approached her replacement and recovery with so much confidence. I also recall Michael as being a person who knew his area of expertise well; a pleasure to have on any team.
I am so sorry for the loss of this sweet, generous man.

I do not have much unique to say about Michael that others will definitely say, so I will be brief (for me). I first met Michael working together and we hit it off day 1. We were of like mind regarding UX, how to work with others, how to be a mentor, and most importantly, how to be a friend, After a couple of years of working together, I moved to Manhattan, but we stayed in touch throughout the years and frequently talked about many things. Mike was a truly good man, a wonderful friend, and a true brother. I will miss him very much.
But now that we have lost Michael on this orb, thoughts turn to his family. He loved his family more than anything, spoke of them often and was so very proud of them. I am so sorry for this loss that is far, far earlier than it should have occurred. I know there is comfort in knowing how much he loved you, but that does not immediately heal the pain of your loss. I send you my virtual hugs.
Rest in Power, my friend.

I had the great pleasure of working with Michael at Aetna oh so many years ago! He was sleays smiling, so cheerful! It was such a pleasure chatting with him as we were trying to organize a reunion with an Aetna crew from the 1980s. Sadly, I could not attend and now, with his loss, I missed a meaningful opportunity. I took his Calligraphy class in Bloomfield years ago and still have one of his own designed calligraphy inspirational card books. He made a difference to me. Our connection was yhat he was a Hobart William Smith student and I was a Keuka College one. We were team rivals, Keuka being about 25 minutes away.
I've had some of the best conversations of my life with Michael. Memorable. Definitely one of a kind. You will be greatly missed. Patty Coope Piellucci

Michael and I worked together at ESPN 10 years ago but stayed in touch over the years. We IM’d every couple of weeks about design, Hobart, politics, and family. His nickname for me was “WillPoP” and I called him “RawDog” :)
He was a great human being and always surprised me with his knowledge and ability to connect on a very personal and human level. I already miss his guidance, friendship and our frequent conversations.
Your father and husband talked about you all the time. He was very proud of his family and I could tell he was very close to you all. My heart goes out to you.
I’m sorry that I can’t make it to his funeral but I am there in spirit.
