Obituary of Margaret M. Vacek

Dr. Margaret Mary (Loveley) Vacek, 78, of Glastonbury passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Hartford Hospital, with her family by her side. Affectionately known as “Dr. Marge” to the hundreds of Glastonbury children and families she worked with as a long-time pediatrician, she was the beloved wife of Dr. William J. Vacek.  They were partners in every sense of the word and were married for 53 years.

Born in Yonkers, New York, Margaret was the daughter of the late William J. and Cosma Jean (Bueti) Loveley. A graduate of Fordham University, she earned her medical degree from Mount Sinai Medical School.   A force to be reckoned with, she was a caring and compassionate doctor and an inspiring role model and mentor.  She faced every challenge in her life with fortitude, grace and resilience.  Some of her most cherished memories were times spent with beloved family, friends and neighbors both in Glastonbury and over the years in Nantucket, Massachusetts.  Margaret was a long-time member of Ss. Isidore and Maria Parish at St. Paul Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Julia V. Wilde and her husband Robert of Glastonbury; her son Daniel W. Vacek and his wife Kriss of Glastonbury; her grandchildren Maggie, Keira and Patrick Wilde; her sister Eleanor Loveley, of Pennsylvania; and by a number of nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her sister Kathryn Volino and her brother-in-law Frank Volino, her brothers-in-law Michael, Charles and Henry Vacek, and her nephew Thomas Vacek.

With great affection, her family expresses their deepest gratitude to the loving home health care providers who helped Marge live her life to the fullest over the past 17 years, especially Juana Ibarguen, her companion since the beginning, and the devoted team who supported her through this journey, becoming family, as well as to the medical professionals on Bliss 11 South and Bliss 11 ICU at Hartford Hospital who cared for her with such compassion over many years.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 11:00 am at Ss. Isidore and Maria Parish at St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Entombment will take place immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.  Memorial donations may be made to The House of Bread, 27 Chestnut Street, Hartford, CT 06120.  For online condolences, please visit www.mulryanfh.com.
