Obituary of Mark Walter Sabia
Mark Walter Sabia, 68, of South Glastonbury, beloved husband of Barbara (Rothman) Sabia, passed away suddenly on October 15, 2023. Mark was born to Dominic and Margery (Benton) Sabia on October 2, 1955, in Torrington, CT. Mark attended Bates College, where he studied Economics and played on the football team. In 1986, Mark married the love of his life, Barbara, and together they settled in Farmington, CT. They moved to Hebron, where they raised their two sons, Drew and Connor, and Mark earned his MBA from the University of Connecticut. As their sons grew up, Mark actively volunteered, starting with Cub Scouts and then Boy Scouts. Mark served as Scoutmaster of Troop 28 in Hebron for nearly 10 years, during which over 50 Scouts achieved the Eagle rank, the troop consistently averaged over 75 scouts, and more than 10,000 hours of community service were completed. Mark continued to volunteer and remained active well after his tenure as Scoutmaster. Mark retired from Aetna after a 30‑year career in insurance to spend more time with Barbara and his sons. Mark cherished every moment spent with his family, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love. He taught his sons the values of integrity, kindness, and resilience, leaving them with a profound legacy to carry forward. His love for his family and community and passion for the outdoors, cooking, and automobiles were shared with everyone who Mark encountered. Mark is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara, and their two children: Drew and his wife, Jacqueline, of Boston, MA, and Connor of Portland, ME. He is also survived by his mother, Margery, of Farmington, CT; his brother, Dominic, and his wife, Georgeann, of Torrington, CT; as well as his brothers‑in-law and their spouses, nieces, nephews, and many close friends. Mark was predeceased by his father, Dominic.
