Obituary of Gloria Guastamachio

Gloria (DeGemmis) Guastamachio passed away unexpectedly on September 15, 2023 due to a brain bleed/prior head injury that took her to fulfill her obligation of being an Angel and fly like a butterfly to be where she must be needed more. She was the beloved wife of Peter M. Guastamachio of Fort Myers, FL for over 65 years.

Born in Hartford, Connecticut on October 7, 1931 she was the youngest daughter of the late Alfred & Nancy (Petraglia) DeGemmis, Gloria was a lifelong resident of Glastonbury. Alongside her husband, Gloria became part of the Buckboard Restaurant not only as a member of the LLC, but Design Coordinator of both the Buckboard and the Colonnade. Gloria lived in Glastonbury for 74 years before moving to Estero Florida in 2005. She was a graduate of Glastonbury High School, Class of 1949. There Gloria enjoyed cheerleading and loved being an all around social butterfly. Gloria loved golf, tennis, bowling and was an avid Red Sox fan since the age of 15.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her four children, Peter Paul Guastamachio and his wife Margaret of Glastonbury, her grandchild, Michael Peter Guastamachio, her step grandchild Robbie Guastamachio, her loving daughter and caretaker, JoAnna Marie Guastamachio of Estero Florida, who will be forever grateful for the last 5 years being able to learn and be blessed by such a truly unique and wonderful soul that leaves a permanent void in her heart, and her husband Jerry Hansen, of Wethersfield, Connecticut, her sons Jeffrey Allen Guastamachio and his partner Darlene Denue of Arlington, Vermont, her 3 grandchildren, Kris Gusto of NY and his wife Bianca, Gabrielle and Nick, her son Gregg Gusta of Mebane North Carolina, her grandchild Benjamin, also of North Carolina, her one great grandson Anthony. Gloria was also survived by her only living Sister, Lillian (DeGemmis) Stefanowicz, who is 102 and 10 years older than Gloria. There was a special bond between Gloria and her sister Lillian because Lillian raised Gloria when she was a baby and took care of her. They were very close and a lot alike. They were not just sisters, they were best friends. She is also survived by her beloved friends Rose Leone and Val Cebulski as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Gloria was predeceased by her brothers Nick DeGemmis and his wife Frances (Popilarcyk) DeGemmis, her brother Alfred DeGemmis and his wife  Helen (Senyk) DeGemmis, her Sister Millie (Elvira) Lakomy and her husband Joseph Lakomy.

Her love of the Boston Red Sox was over the top, but her love of her family and children  through cooking was her real joy, Her daughter and she would fight over who would be the chef each weekend.. Her love of God and human kindness was one of the most wonderful things she possessed. Laughter, love, animals, gardening, decorating, family, baking, cooking and her children kept her young and happy!

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 10:00 am at Ss. Isidore and Maria Parish at St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
