Obituary of Salvatore Vernali

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Salvatore Vernali, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Salvatore left this world on September 5, 2023, after a brief illness. He was 90 years old.Born on November 12, 1932, in Floridia, Sicily, Salvatore’s life was a testament to resilience, integrity, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones. He was the son of Sebastiano and Vincenza Vernali, and from his earliest days displayed a strong work ethic and love of music.


In 1954, Sal married the love of his life, Salvatrice, and the two built a life together filled with love and devotion. In 1956, they immigrated to the United States in search of the American dream and a better life for their growing family. Their enduring marriage of close to 70 years was a testament to their unwavering commitment to one another. Together, they created a home filled with love, music, and cherished memories. Sal was a dedicated father who worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He worked his way from bricklayer to a respected custom home builder, who achieved his dream of building a home for each of his daughters.


Sal’s joy in life was his family and the Red Sox. He cherished every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and watching the Red Sox. His love and support were unwavering, and he was the glue that held the family together through good times and bad.


He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Salvatrice, his daughters Enza Dandeneau and her husband Steve, Anna Cairnduff, and Linda Hovanec and her husband Derek, along with his grandchildren James and wife Emily, Patrick and wife Tiffany, Alyssa, William, Elizabeth, and Tyler and his two great-granddaughters, Lucy and Lila. He also leaves behind his sister, Angela DiTommaso, brother Guiseppe Vernali, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son-in-law,Martin Cairnduff.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on September 11, 2023, at 10 AM at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford, CT, followed by a burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17 Wickham Road, Glastonbury CT. Calling hours are Sunday, September 10, 2023 from 4 to 6 PM at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury CT.
