Obituary of Suzanne M. Cavilia

Suzanne Munch Cavilia of Glastonbury, age 70, passed away at her home on Saturday, January 28 after battling cancer with courage, grace and good humor for several years. She is survived by her husband John Cavilia, her son Ian Cavilia, her son Stephen Cavilia and his wife Cori Adams Cavilia (of Rush, NY), and her daughter Francesca Caviglia and her husband Shane Blackman (of New York City).  Suzanne had no siblings, but she is survived by her beloved cousin Valerie Smithe Lee, of Antigua and Barbuda. Suzanne and Valerie grew up together and were less than a year apart, so they were often mistaken for sisters or even twins when they were young.  She will also be missed by the members of her husband's large extended family, to whom she was like another sister.

Suzanne was born in Newburgh, NY to Alfred E. Munch III and Jane Crowley Munch. She spent her early years in East Orange, NJ, Greenwich Village, NY, and Asbury Park, NJ.  She graduated from the University of San Francisco in 1974, and received a Master’s degree in English literature from Georgetown University, where she wrote her thesis on T.S. Eliot. Suzanne was an avid lifelong reader of poetry, literature, history and public affairs.

Family and friends may call on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. Funeral services and burial will be private. For online condolences, please visit www.mulryanfh.com.

“We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time."
