Obituary of Joanne M. Hetrick

Joanne (M’Grath) Hetrick of South Glastonbury, CT and Coconut Creek, FL passed away at home after a long illness Friday November 4, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Joanne was born in 1940 to the late Charles and Theresa (Fischer) M’Grath and raised in West Hartford. She was predeceased by her loving husband James (Jidge) Hetrick, Jr.

Joanne graduated from Colby Sawyer College with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Lab Science and had a passion for music, porcelain doll making and was an avid knitter. She was a cantor and choir member at St. Dunstan Church in Glastonbury for many years. Joanne leaves her daughters Kimberly Smith of South Glastonbury, Karen Smith of Glastonbury and Kristin Smith of Vernon, her sister Pauline M’Grath of Windsor, two granddaughters Morgan Smith of Washington D.C. and Emma Smith of South Glastonbury.

She also leaves her dear friends Mark and Andi Sheptoff, Barbara Sleights, all her Coconut Creek friends and her Yorkshire terrier Oliver. She was predeceased by two stepsons Terrence Hetrick and Christopher Hetrick. We would like to thank all of Joanne’s wonderful caregivers from Hartford Healthcare Independence at Home. Joanne was our rock and fought like a warrior. She will be greatly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dunstan Church, 1345 Manchester Rd., Glastonbury. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: American Brain Tumor Association, give.abta.org or 8550 W.
