Obituary of Karen Wetherell

Karen Brackett Wetherell, age 72, of Glastonbury CT, died Friday March 1, at Hartford Hospital following a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Karen, the daughter of Howard and Josephine Brackett, was born October 10, 1940 in Greenwich, Connecticut. Karen attended Greenwich High School and earned an Associates Degree from Dean Junior College in Franklin, MA. She began her career in the insurance industry at Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance in 1963 as a receptionist where she worked until 1990 and achieved the title of Vice President of Equity Product Services. She then worked at Connecticut Mutual and AT&T, retiring in 2000. Karen had been a resident of Glastonbury for the past 45 years but spent much of her time traveling around the world having visited all but two continents. If not on an exotic excursion, Karen could be found at her second residence on Martha's Vineyard, a place she loved and visited since 1972. Her other loves included art which she created and collected and most importantly her beloved family for which she provided unconditional love, support, laughter and an incomparable zest for life. Her positivity, humor and generosity of spirit has been felt by all those who came into contact with her. Karen is survived by her husband of fifty years, Bradford Anderson Wetherell of Glastonbury, CT. Also surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Catherine Wetherell of Wayne, PA; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelli (Wetherell) and David Pecararo of Oak Bluffs, MA, four grandchildren; Shelby and Sally Wetherell and Nicholas and Maximus Pecararo; and a sister, Devon McCauley of Greenwich, CT. In celebration of Karen's life, the family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, March 5th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue in Glastonbury. Funeral services will be held at Buckingham Congregational Church on Cricket lane in Glastonbury Wednesday, March 6th at 11:00 with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in memory of Karen to the Connecticut Childrens' Foundation, 282 Washington Street, Hartford, Ct. 06106 or online at www.Connecticutchildrens.org.
