Obituary of Dorothy Just
Dorothy (Beuke) Just, 94, Newington, Conn., formerly of Glastonbury, Conn., wife of the late Robert E. Just, passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013. Born Nov. 28, 1918, in Johnstown, daughter of the late William and Clara Viola (Ream) Beuke. Dorothy lived in Glastonbury for 34 years before moving to the Jefferson House in Newington five years ago. Survived by daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and Ed Doyle, Glastonbury; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Elaine Just, York Beach, Maine; five cherished grandchildren and their spouses, Heather and David McPeake, Betsy and Chris Howgate, Sarah Doyle, Ashley and Tim Goggin and Bobby Just; and great-grandchildren, Hailey and Ava Howgate and Hannah McPeake. She also leaves behind a beloved sister-in-law, Ruth Hack; and nephew, Gary Beuke, both of Johnstown; and several other nieces and nephews, all dear to their Aunt Dorothy. Predeceased by brother, William Beuke. After being a homemaker for the greater part of her life, Dorothy established a career at Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance, where she worked for many years. Coworkers fondly remember the East Wing receptionist who had a smile for everyone and never forgot a name or face. Before moving to Newington, she lived at both the Clark House and on Pratt Street, Glastonbury. It was there where she baked many treats, such as her family's favorite apple pie and bread pudding. Dorothy was an avid basketball fan, having played the position of side center on her Dale High School basketball team in Johnstown. She loved cheering on the UConn Husky basketball teams to victory. Best known as "Nana," Dorothy devoted her life to her family. There was no greater joy than being surrounded by her loved ones; Nana was an integral part of her family's daily activities. Whatever the event, big or small, it was never complete without Nana. Dorothy's family would like to extend their heartfelt love and gratitude to every member of the staff at the Jefferson House. For the five years that she lived there, everyone made each day a true joy and pleasure for Dorothy. She was always treated with the utmost care, love and respect. Memorial service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to Jefferson House Good Samaritan Fund, One John Stewart Drive, Newington, Conn. 06111, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
