Father Henry Smolinski posted a condolence

IT HAS BEEN 10 MONTHS since Father Bill Raxl has passed to his heavenly reward; but he is still remembered by many including his brother priests like myself. I may not have served alongside him in his several positions, but I followed his educational & pastoral posts [especially since his original predecessor at South Catholic HS was my beloved principal at Aquinas HS in NB: Fr. John Shugrue]. May Fr.BIL continue to abide in heavenly joy and continue to be an inspiration to us still on this earthly pilgrimage in the footsteps of our Savior Jesus Christ. FATHER HENRY SMOLINSKI [age 81, retired in Windsor CT]

I enjoyed Father Traxl’s booming voice, enthusiastic singing, thoughtful homilies, and reminding parishioners at St. John Fisher In Marlborough “it didn’t have to bee this way”. He wanted us to count our blessings and use them to bring Christ’s to life through the life we live.

Father Traxl was my history teacher at South Catholic High School in Hartford in the early 80’s. I think of him when anything related to western civilization is mentioned as that was the course he taught. I remember it as a tough class and he as an extremely knowledgeable teacher who shared his passion for history and genuine sense of humor with all of us. May he Rest In Peace!

I will always remember Father Traxl with great fondness, especially on my wedding day when he peered over his glasses at us as if to say “Don’t mess this up!” Well Father, we are still hanging in there close to 30 years later! You are in our wedding album! We will remember you always! Rest In Peace. God bless!

Father Traxl came to St Mary Magdalen Parish when I was principal of the school. It was through his leadership that the school, not only remained open after the threat of closure, but the first building expansion allowed for the addition of the junior high grades. Although the parish had no money for this project, he joined our team who visited potential donors and along with the money, his popularity grew! His commitment to catholic education and SMMS was inspiring. May he Rest In Peace!
